The City of San José (population 958,000) Housing Department is offering a unique opportunity for a talented and motivated individual, particularly with a banking and/or financial background, to be part of the City’s efforts to preserve and expand the supply of affordable housing with a focus on housing solutions for the homeless. This senior position requires expertise in all aspects of multifamily affordable housing lending with a focus on loan origination and asset management. Briefly, the key responsibilities are:

Underwriting affordable rental housing loans to developers, including evaluating development proposals, performing financial and feasibility analysis, and assessing the impact on City repayments and policy objectives.
Assisting the Manager of Asset Management with refinancings and workouts with developers, with functions similar to those for origination as well as assessing asset performance.
Managing City-held land assets and RFP processes for disposition of City-owned properties.
Supervision of one full-time employee (FTE) and task oversight of another one to two FTEs.

This position requires someone who can work effectively with City staff from other departments, developers, and outside agencies; work well both independently and as part of a team; and have excellent written, quantitative, and oral communication skills.
